Baronscourt,
Northern Ireland
Monday Nov. 3 – Thursday/Friday Oct. 6/7, 2025
Baronscourt Estate, located in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, is the private home of the Duke of Abercorn and one of the few Georgian houses still inhabited by the original family since 1780. Guests stay at the Mansion House, hosted by Lord Hamilton, and enjoy a comfortable, relaxed family-home atmosphere surrounded by formal gardens, parkland, woodland, and lakes. The estate spans 5,500 acres and includes historic buildings like a 17th-century plantation house and an 18th-century villa.

Double guns are recommended, with a loader assigned to guide, load, and manage shells. Gun hire is available, and cartridges are provided but must comply with the estate’s strict “lead-free” and fiber wad policy. The standard gauge is 12, with appropriate chokes.
Guests bringing their own guns must submit information for permits via the estate office. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) processes permits, so applications should be completed by the end of August. Airline notification is required at least 72 hours prior (or at booking). If traveling through Dublin, an additional permit from the Irish Garda is needed. Avril Mitchell (estate secretary) coordinates applications.
*Clothing Recommendation: Warm shooting attire and waterproof gear are essential, as the weather can be cool and rainy.

Baronscourt offers one of Ireland’s best shoots, managed by Head Keeper Stephen Pollock (over 35 years of experience, succeeding his father who served for 42 years). The team is supported by beaters and dog handlers. The quarry includes driven pheasant, duck, and occasionally woodcock later in the season. Pheasants and ducks are bred on the estate and released mid-summer, ensuring strong flyers by the October season. Shooting covers 2,000 acres within walking distance of the house, with up to three consecutive days and 20 varied drives offering friendly, challenging experiences.

How to Get to Baronscourt:
-
Commercial Flights: Direct flights from NYC to Dublin (Aer Lingus, Delta) or via London Heathrow to Belfast City (British Airways). Dublin is 2.5 hours away; Belfast is 1.5–2 hours. Traveling with guns via Dublin requires an extra firearms permit. Chauffeured transfers or rental cars are available.
-
Private Jets: City of Derry Airport (35 miles, 1 hour from Baronscourt) is the best option. Notify the airport in advance if traveling with guns so PSNI can inspect certificates and firearms.
