Stora Sundby, Sweden
Driven Duck Shoot. Sep. 16 – 19, 2025
Located on the shores of Lake Hjälmaren, Sweden’s fourth-largest lake, Stora Sundby Castle is a breathtaking 13th-century estate that looks straight out of a fairy tale. Just under two hours from Stockholm Arlanda Airport, this 3,700-hectare estate—combined with the neighboring Biby property—offers some of the best duck and goose shooting in Scandinavia.
Owned by the Count Klingspor family since 1888, Stora Sundby blends history, elegance, and tradition, with its iconic design featuring four towers (the seasons), twelve turrets (the months), 52 rooms (the weeks), and 365 windows (the days of the year).

The Hunting
Stora Sundby is renowned for driven duck and goose shooting, with 4–5 expertly organized drives per day across its lakes and wetlands. One of the highlights is the bay drive, where hunters shoot from pontoons against the dramatic backdrop of the castle—a truly unique experience considered among Europe’s finest duck shoots.
Each hunt begins with a detailed safety briefing in the castle courtyard before heading into the field. The day concludes with a traditional “tableau” ceremony in the courtyard, followed by drinks in the Hunters’ Hall and an elegant dinner.

The Estate & Accommodations
The castle features 15 elegant guest rooms, each preserving its 19th-century charm while discreetly incorporating modern comforts. Historic salons, grand dining halls, and sweeping parkland views create an atmosphere of aristocratic refinement.
Guests enjoy meals crafted by local chefs, blending fine Swedish cuisine with modern culinary expertise, all served in the castle’s stunning neo-Gothic dining room or the sunlit breakfast hall overlooking the gardens.

Activities for Non-Hunters
Non-shooting guests can enjoy private castle tours, strolls through landscaped gardens, visits to medieval ruins and runestones, or scenic walks around Lake Hjälmaren. The surrounding countryside offers abundant wildlife and serene landscapes ideal for photography and exploration.
